The third SanRenMu knife I bought from Exduct was the T01A, the first of SanRenMu's "Tool" line of knives, a slight departure from their main business of selling quality single blade folding knives.

What differentiates the tool line is that each knife has extra functionality built in - the T01A has two extra fold out tools stored in the back of the knife, a combination bottle opener/screwdriver and a line/rescue cutter.  The T01A also includes a safety glass cutter.  The T08 has a wrench built in, and the T21 has a can opener and rescue/line cutter.

The idea of a knife with secondary tools besides the blade is nothing new - other companies have successfully utilized this idea in the past, notably with Swiss Army knives.  What differs in the SanRenMu approach is the thoughtful design and exellent engineering that went in to making these tools both functional and safe to use.

First, and perhaps most surprisingly, both fold out tools have their own liner locks.  This locking mechanism prevents the tools from folding on the hand under hard usage, and makes them significantly safer to use.  While other knives have secondary fold out tools, almost none of them have quality locking mechanisms.  From a build quality perspective, each tool also has it's own proper washers to make tool extraction simple and smooth, and each liner has a proper ball bearing for smooth opening and proper handle retention.  While fairly simple touches in and of themselves, these two inclusions (proper washers and ball bearing inserts) speak to the quality and thoroughness of the design that went in to the T01A.

Lastly, the T01A has included a spike-point fixed glass breaker for emergency usage.  The window breaker is functional and of a fairly standard design, but the more interesting thing is that the front of the knife handle is curved, such that if you ever needed to use the window breaker in an emergency situation the knife would fit comfortably and securly in your hand and not slip.  Again, and extraordinary design touch that many other knives simply don't have.

As to the blade itself, the T01A has a half-serrated, drop point utility blade that straddles the line between overall utility and strength.  Besides the standard liner lock, the T01A also has a secondary lock that prevents liner failure, again, a quality engineering feat and something that speaks to the overall quality of the design.  A great feature.

The T01 speaks on many levels.  It is a very beautiful knife, well designed, well engineered, and extraordinarily functional.  A definite must-buy for any serious knife collector, if only to appreciate the sheer thoroughness of the design process.
